Angle Conversion Guide
Angles are measured in several different units depending on the context. Degrees are the most familiar — a full circle is 360°, a right angle is 90°, and a straight line is 180°. Radians are used in mathematics and physics — a full circle is 2π radians (approximately 6.2832 rad), and a right angle is π/2 radians (approximately 1.5708 rad).
To convert degrees to radians, multiply by π/180 (approximately 0.01745). To convert radians to degrees, multiply by 180/π (approximately 57.2958). These conversions are essential in trigonometry, calculus and physics.
Gradians and Arcminutes
Gradians (also called grads or gons) divide a right angle into 100 units, making a full circle 400 gradians. They are used in surveying and some European countries. Arcminutes and arcseconds are used in astronomy and navigation — one degree equals 60 arcminutes, and one arcminute equals 60 arcseconds. The angular resolution of the human eye is approximately 1 arcminute.
